The captain, Sungyoung Kim, attends the 3rd International Symposium on Meta-AI for X and presents the current collaborative research with Prof. Agneiszka Roginska (NYU) on distributed audiovisual collaboration in XR.

The workshop was full of innovative ideas how to advance human experiences in virtual space through evidence-based research and multidisciplinary collaboration between two universities.

A heavy rain fall unexpectedly welcomed us on our way from the workshop venue to the dinner place. However, this also let us to discuss our ideas under a bridge that connects two unknown buildings (the captain was impressed by the attendees’ passion and took a photo of this rare scenery of the top XR researcher escaping from the heavy rain but still taking about their research).

The 2nd day of workshop was a high-speed network test between NYU and KAIST. The seamless and stable connection is the key component in future XR collaboration. Very luckily, our lab (led by Jongho Lee) had a chance to test an audiovisual XR distributed collaboration scenario based on NYU Prof. Ken Perlin’s WEBXR and node.js (see the brief diagram below).
Through the platform, two distributed teams (KAIST and NYU) were able to interact and perform an artistic mission together, which put a great milestone in the KAIST-NYU Meta-Museum project.
Personally the captain wants to improve this towards distributed concert and distributed aural heritage (focusing on the lab’s current research directions). Let’s see what’s happening in coming years.
The test was followed by visit to NYU’s legendary recording studios and teaching facilities with Prof. Agnieszka Roginska. Altogether the trip was very useful, informative, insightful and futuristic. Thanks all for the students who prepared this workshop and special thanks to Jongho.
