Measuring Sanju Daesanru for Aural Heritage

On a hot summer day, June 13th, our team(Kyung Taek Oh, Pooseung Koh, Rai Sato, and Sungjoon Kim) embarked on a fascinating journey to Sanju Daesanru (상주 대산루, 尙州 對山樓), a 종갓집 that has preserved its architectural charm since 1778. Designated as a cultural heritage site by the Korean Heritage Foundation, Sanju Daesanru immediately captivated us with its timeless beauty. The traditional Korean architecture, with its intricate wooden structures and elegantly curved roofs, stood proudly against the backdrop of lush greenery.

Our mission for the day was to measure the unique acoustic characteristics of this traditional heritage site. The unique architecture and materials used promised to reveal fascinating insights into how sound travels and resonates in a traditional Korean setting.

Looking Ahead

As we concluded our measurements, we left Sanju Daesanru with a deeper appreciation for its historical significance and a wealth of acoustic data. This visit was just the beginning of our project for aural heritage. We are eager to analyze our findings and start the process of recreating this incredible environment digitally.

Stay tuned as we continue to explore and share more about our journey into the past and how we are bringing it to life in the virtual world.
