Sometimes, I write a grant proposal as if I have a fluent and compatible enough knowledge on the research topic. But the ground truth is that I end up to find that I apply for the grant to learn more about the topic. This is very ironic. I somehow need to pretend that I am an expert of the field but there are so many talented and “young + energetic” researchers in the world. Writing is a process not to show off my dated knowledge but to learn how to be humble before the sea of undiscovered treasures and to ask help a pure luck and divine help to encounter one of those treasure through out this process.
6DoF, I was conceited that I understand this until I read this paper. Of course, I never listened to the proposed system and its result yet. Until I subjectively evaluate, I usually don’t believe any ‘data.’ (old and bad habit from the AES camp) Yet, someone did not give up an idea that spatial information can be extracted from one monaural RIR, which I (and my old colleagues) laughed at and abandoned without any second consideration.
With a humble and regretful mind, I read this paper again to admit that the world of research is still fabulous and full of eye-opening unexpectedness.
