Field trip to KBS

As a part of class activity (GCT-535), the students with AIRIS lab members visited KBS (Korea Broadcasting System) Radio Studio 16 (RS-16).

The purpose of this field trip is to learn ‘stereo microphone techniques.’ It is a bit sad to make a long trip from KAIST (Daejeon) to Seoul KBS only to learn this topic of stereo microphone techniques, because it means that KAIST does not have an enough space (studio) to explore various stereo microphone techniques.

However, apparently students like to visit Seoul, especially to KBS, away from their usual daily lives in Daejeon.

Total four microphone techniques have been tested (AB, XY, ORTF, and Blumline). Lucky that the group has a trained pianist who played Rachmaninov for us.

AB: DPA (B&K) 4006
ORTF: Schoeps MK4
Blumlein: AKG414
XY: Sennheiser 184

In addition, I put two FoA microphones (Sennheiser AMBEO) to test out my W-AMBISONICS microphone technique as a prep for the upcoming ASK meeting.

Here are some photos of the field trip.
